Many eager voters we ready to vote when the doors first opened at 7am, and a steady stream of voters has continued to come through the doors all morning.

IEC presiding officer Anitha Eamiah said she was happy with the progress they were making and commented that she had found the voters particularly courteous towards the elderly, allowing them to jump to the front of the queue.

“I love the neighbourly attitude of the voters here in Ballito,” said Eamiah.

Voting stations close at 7pm tonight.

After a 15 minute break, the counting will begin.

Eamiah said that last year they managed to tally up the vote by 11pm but that this year they had more voters registered at Townsend Park (about 1800 in total) so she expected it to take a while longer.

Once the votes are counted the result will be posted outside the door of the voting station.
