Ballito mothers are falling prey to a hoax message targeting Nestle baby food products.

Mothers around Ballito and across the North Coast are being frightened by a hoax message warning them of Nestle baby food products that may contain glass.

The message is circulating via Whatsapp and social media.

The message reads:

ATTENTION URGENT!!! For all parents, grandparents, babysitters, aunts, uncles etc etc etc… Nestle is asking for everyone to return all BANANA BABY FOOD expiring 2017 because they may contain GLASS. Please copy & paste this for all babies safety. Bar code 761303308973, EVEN if you are not a parent please help forward this post. You could help save a child.

According to Hoax Slayer this hoax does contains a fragment of truth.

Gerber France recalled a batch of banana “P’tit Pot” banana baby food in June 2011 because a piece of glass was found in one jar.

However, the problem was confined to one batch and affects a product that is sold only in France.

Gerber is a US based subsidiary of Nestle, but has no connection whatsoever to Nestle South Africa.
