Car thieves target a Ballito shopping centre

Police are tracking a second vehicle suspected to have been involved in the theft.

A white Toyota Avanza was stolen from the basement parking in the Ballito Lifestyle centre at around 1pm today.

The car’s registration is NT 67424 and it has been reported that the vehicle does not have a tracker installed.

Umhlali SAPS spokesperson, Vinny Pillay said police are working hard to recover the vehicle.

“The guards have informed the Umhlali SAPS about a car that drove off around the same time as the stolen car did.”

“We were given the registration details of the car and we have traced it to Upper Tongaat.

“We do not know if there is a link between the two cars but we are still investigating the possibility,” said Pillay.

Ballito Lifestyle centre property manager, Mark Pearse said he could not yet provide more details.

“We are working with Enforce security guards and Umhlali SAPS to investigate the matter and gather statements.”

“We will meet on Monday to discuss the progress, ” said Pearse.

In February the centre’s two cell phone stores were targeted by in a double burglary.
