New frail care centre confirmed for Mount Edgecombe

The R95 million investment into the estate's luxurious frail care facility will be open to the public.

The biggest frail care centre in KZN has been confirmed by The Collins Group, developer of Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village, which will be open to the public by March 2018.

The R95 million investment into the estate’s frail care facility should dramatically increase the popularity of the estate for retirees.

Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village is nestled within the already established Kindlewood Estate, and will comprise about 260 units.

The retirement village has a strong focus on providing quality healthcare services through Totalcare, South Africa’s leading healthcare provider specialising in assisted living, frail-care and home-based care.

Director of Totalcare, Cornel Nieuwenhuizen said the facility will be the best of their tried and tested operations.

“Proper care is not always possible in a small facility as we find that there are limitations when it comes to employing the right staff, with the right credentials and experience in the many facets that a healthcare facility for senior citizens requires.

“With the size of the building just under 6000m² with 112 beds and up to 100 employees, our primary focus is on excellent nursing care through a multi-disciplinary approach,” said Nieuwenhuizen.

Intricate design detail has been given to the facility with the incorporation of craft rooms, a kitchen, a laundromat, a light airy reception and welcome area, as well as a dining and serving area that leads out onto a beautiful lookout deck.

The care centre will have qualified staff members on-site ranging from nurses and doctors, to laundry, cleaning and kitchen services, business administrators and matrons.

Director of Cameron Property Group, developer representative for Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village, David Cameron said regardless of sales within this development, they will continue to proceed with the healthcare facility building plans.

“This is a very exciting development which we can only see growing in demand and adding value to the public. There is such a shortage of this type of product offering,” said Cameron.
