UPDATE: Four-year-old thrown through windscreen will live
The boy was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition and suffered major facial damage.
The four-year-old boy who was thrown through the windscreen of the car he was travelling when the vehicle was involved in an accident on the M27 on September 12 is reported to be in a stable condition.

A head on collision took place on September 12 when the child and his parents were travelling from the N2 off-ramp, up Umdloti Road towards Waterloo when their car was reportedly T-boned by a bakkie traveling on the farm road that crosses the M27.
On impact, the mother broke the front seat of the car and the little boy flew through a shatter-proof windscreen landing 10 to 15 metres away.
According to IPSS Medical Rescue‘s Paul Herbst, the toddler was sitting on his mother’s lap in the back seat of the car without a seat belt.
The boy was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition and suffered major facial damage.

IPSS Medical Rescue’s Candace-Anne Grobler said the toddler has been taken off the ventilator and is no longer in ICU.
“It could have been worse and in this case, the toddler was lucky.
“He is stable and is receiving rehabilitation. His parents who suffered minor injuries are also fine,” said Grobler.
The boy has been transferred to Victoria hospital, where he is recovering.
