Innovative training to get into the job market
The two and-a-half week programme first focuses on teaching people how to adjust their mindset and then on giving them skills.
“Poverty is not always about having nothing. It is also about doing nothing.”
In keeping with their slogan, Work 4 a Living is a programme that aims at curbing unemployment by teaching job seekers or people looking to further their careers basic lessons on how to go about finding a job.
Training facilitator Ruth Jopson, who recently started a branch of Work 4 A Living at Linc church in Salt Rock, said with 30 centres around the country, five per cent of people who they have trained have started their own businesses while 60 per cent have found permanent employment.
“Work 4 a Living began in Port Elizabeth in 2007 and was founded by Ena Richards when she saw the frustration that job seekers face.

“Many people want to work but they do not know how to conduct themselves in an interview, how to make a CV or when they do find a job, do not know how to sustain their position and grow in the company.
“This is where we step in,” said Ruth Jopson.
The two and-a-half week programme first focuses on teaching people how to adjust their mindset and then on giving them skills.
“When looking for employment, you need to realise that it starts with you, it is your responsibility. We start with character and ethics training, where we assess and try to change people’s attitudes.
“We also teach them ethical behaviour that is followed in the work place,” said Jopson.
