VIDEO: Glenhills housing protesters fight for their homes

The residents refuse to stop protesting until the mayor himself addresses them.

Residents from the Glenhills area in Stanger took to the streets to protest against KwaDukuza municipality bulldozing their homes at 5am this morning.

About 1000 people met on the streets of Murugan Road where 500 homes were to be demolished.

The municipality did not send the bulldozer and according to crime prevention superintendant Fanakhu Ndabamb, the mayor Ricardo Mthembu will address the residents next week Wednesday.

The houses will not be demolished until the mayor  speaks to them.

Police attempted to mediate, however the residents refused to stop protesting until the mayor personally visits them.

 

The enterance to Happy Vally Road and Murugan Road remain closed.
