VIDEO: King Shaka “plane crash” a simulation

An airplane has "crashed" at King Shaka International Airport.

King Shaka International Airport did a simulated airplane crash exercise this afternoon and have warned the public not to be alarmed by the procedure.

The airplane that crashed reportedly carried 126 “patients” who were “treated” by paramedics at the airport.

All rescue services helped at the simulated crash.

IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst said each mock passenger has a little card on them with a description of what is wrong with them.

“All mock patients were taken to hospital and some were even flown to Albert Luthuli. The operation took about five hours in total and was very well co-ordinated by King Shaka International Airport,” said Herbst.

This simulated airplane crash is an annual exercise, which the airport requires for their compliance and it offers necessary training and inter-service collaboration between SAPS, firefighters and paramedics.
