A21 walk for freedom – a success in Ballito

The walk was arranged to create awareness of modern day slavery and shine a spotlight on the 27 million people who are still trapped in slavery today.

Dynamic members of Linc church in Salt Rock organised the A21 walk for freedom that took place in Ballito yesterday morning.

A21 is an international non-profit organisation that aims to end human trafficking and modern day slavery by creating awareness, providing protection for victims, prosecuting perpetrators and partnering with people to fight for those who cannnot fight for themselves.

People walked with tape across their mouths which represented slaves not having a voice.

The walk was arranged to create awareness of modern day slavery and shine a spotlight on the 27 million people who are still trapped in slavery today.

About 350 people participated in the walk.

They walked from Ashton International College to the N2 bridge and back.

Dressed in black, the participants wore tape across their mouths to represent slaves who have  no voice.

The walk to freedom has been done globally in 270 cities. Yesterday’s walk was the first  in KZN.

Volunteer Tina Chetty said the event took a few months to plan.

“We have seen an incredible buy in from the Ballito community.”

“The goal was not only to raise funds but to make people aware.”
