High speed chase through Tongaat’s streets
One of the men was recently released from prison after serving an eight-month sentence for housebreaking.
A high speed chase through Tongaat yesterday morning led to two suspected members of a housebreaking syndicate being arrested by Reaction Unit South Africa.
Shortly after 11am Reaction Unit South Africa received an anonymous call reporting a suspicious white Kia Rio with four occupants parked outside a home on Amethyst Road in Bellgate, Tongaat.
Reaction officers were dispatched to the home to investigate, upon arrival the vehicle in question took off and they officers gave chase through the town.
According to Vinod Sinds, manager of Reaction Unit South Africa, the driver rammed into several vehicles in an attempt to evade arrest.

The getaway vehicle was extensively damaged and was abandoned on Gopalall Hurbans Road, explained Sinds.
“The robbers split up and fled on foot. Reaction officers Pravine Sunker and Amith Behari pursued and arrested one man,” recounts Sinds.
The Umhlali SAPS K9 Unit was called to assist in the search and a second man was arrested hiding on a residential property.
Upon inspection of the vehicle several house break-in tools including hammers, crow bars, a bolt cutter and gloves were recovered.

False number plates were also found stuck over the original number plates.
Sinds told The Courier that the men are believed to be linked to a syndicate responsible for several other house break-ins in the area.
Two other men who were in the car are still at large.
One of the men – a 23 year old – was recently released from prison after serving an eight-month sentence for housebreaking.
Both of the arrested robbers have been detained by Tongaat SAPS.
