Sharp-eyed security guard nabs thieves in Ballito
He said years of experience kicked in when three men barely stayed for only 10 minutes before returning to the vehicle and leaving.
One of Megaforce Security‘s guards, Jabulani Nhlenyama received a special award from the SMD Group motor dealership for going the extra mile.
While on duty in the guardhouse outside SMD three weeks ago, Nhlenyama noticed a suspicious blue Polo enter the parking lot.
He said years of experience kicked in when three men barely stayed for only 10 minutes before returning to the vehicle and leaving.
“I immediately wrote down their registration number before informing the Megaforce control-room and the dealer-principle of SMD, who realised that the men had managed to steal several laptops from inside the dealership,” Nhlenyama told The Courier.
SMD staff, Megaforce response units and members of the SAPS were then able to track the vehicle – which had false number plates – to the parking lot of a Ballito shopping centre where three men were apprehended and the stolen goods recovered.
“Jabulani and Megaforce Security have really impressed us,” said Ivan Hartley, dealer-principle of SMD Group Ballito.
“Most people assume that parking security guards are asleep on their feet – but not Jabulani.”
