Teen rapist sentenced to 15 years

A six year old girl was raped by the teenager in August.

The Verulam Regional Court sentenced a 17-year-old Ndwedwe teen to 15 years imprisonment for rape on Monday, October 31.

“A six-year-old child was at home in Ndwedwe Mission when the teenage boy, who is also a neighbour took the  little girl to his house and raped her at about 8pm on August 30.

“The child reported the rape to her grandmother who immediately contacted the police,” said Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.

A case of rape was opened at Ndwedwe SAPS.

“The KwaDukuza Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit took over the investigation and the accused was apprehended the following day,” said Zwane.

KZN Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa praised the team for securing the conviction in court.

“The members will continue with their positive approach in making sure that all those who prey on defenceless women and children are locked behind the bars for a long time,” he said.
