Guard shot in Boxer KwaDukuza ATM heist

Robbers opened fire on the security guards while they were loading the ATM.

A security officer was wounded during an armed robbery at Boxer store in KwaDukuza on Wednesday morning.

Police said an undisclosed amount of money was taken.

“Two security guards were delivering four canisters of cash to load the Easy Pay ATM.

“While loading the money they heard a gunshot and looked up to see that men were firing at them,” said Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.  

“One security guard was shot in his left arm.

The men escaped with the cash intended for the ATM.

“A case of armed robbery has been opened at KwaDukuza police station for investigation and no arrests have been made.” 

Fungani Kunene, a senior from Maphumulo was one of the many waiting for the store to re-open when The Courier arrived. 

He was distraught because he did not have the strength to walk to another store.

“I come to this store for my groceries and to collect my pension. I am 75 years old and I cannot walk any further.”
