Schoolgirl run over in Tongaat

The six-year-old girl was a pupil at Fairbreeze Combined School.

A six-year-old schoolgirl was killed after being hit by car while crossing the road in Tongaat yesterday afternoon.

Tongaat SAPS spokesperson warrant officer Manisha Maharaj-Mari told The Courier that Nana Angel Sibaya was hit by a white Toyota Hilux at 2pm on Tuesday.

“She was trying to cross the R102 near the mosque at Fairbreeze,” said Maharaj-Mari.

“The impact left the girl with head, leg and neck injuries.”

Sibaya attended Fairbreeze Combined School.

She died on the side of the road.

“Her body was transferred to Pheonix Mortuary,” said Maharaj-Mari.

The tragedy sparked an outpouring of grief and condolences on the Tongaat Facebook group.

It is not yet clear if a case has been opened against the driver of the Hilux.
