Charred body discovered in Tongaat field
The remains of the man have not been identified and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Tongaat police are investigating a case of murder following the gruesome discovery of a man’s burnt remains this week.
According to Tongaat SAPS spokesperson warrant officer Manisha Maharaj-Mari the body was found in a field near Emona in Tongaat shortly before 4pm on Monday afternoon.
The remains were apparently stumbled upon by two men walking through the veld.
The body was recovered by the police’s search and rescue unit and has been sent to the state mortuary in order for further examination to take place.
Maharaj-Mari said that while tyre threads and wood were found on the body – apparently used as fuel – it is unclear if the victim was ‘necklaced’.
The remains of the man have not been identified and police are urging the community to contact detective Hanesan Naidoo at 032-944 9927 if they have any information that could assist in identifying the deceased.
