Missing KDM taxi driver found dead in Nonoti
Pillay's body, found with stab wounds to the chest, was recovered from the sugarcane. The man charged with his murder appear in court today.
Three men aged between 18 and 48 are appearing today in the KwaDukuza Magistrates’ Court for charges of murder, carjacking and receiving stolen property.
Their arrest follows the disappearance of taxi driver Jayram Pillay (52) of Glenhills.
Pillay went missing on Wednesday, 17 November when he driving his meter taxi in KwaDukuza and surrounding area.
“KwaDukuza SAPS, Umhlali K9 Unit and members of a security agency searched for Pillay on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 November,” said Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.
Investigations led the team to eThembeni where Pillay’s vehicle was reportedly sold.
“The men suspected of selling his vehicle were arrested.
“Pillay’s body, found with stab wounds to the chest, was recovered at Nonoti sugarcane fields where it had been dumped.
“Two men were charged with murder and carjacking while the third was charged with receiving stolen property.”
KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Bheki Langa congratulated the team for the speedy arrest of the suspects.
He commended the team for their sterling work and commitment in their investigations that led to the arrest of the murder suspects and the recovery of the hijacked vehicle.
