Two dead in grievous R102 Ballito accident

The collision left two dead and ten injured. WARNING: contains graphic images.

The anguished cries of a man who had just lost his brother echoed amid the sirens in the aftermath of a collision between two taxis the R102 at Ballito this morning.

Two people were killed when the taxis collided at the junction of Ballito Drive and the R102.

According to IPSS Medical Rescue’s Dylan Meyrick one of the taxis was southbound on the R102 when it hit the other taxi, which was turning onto the R102 from Ballito.

The first taxi got off relatively lightly but the second overturned and went careening into a tree in front of Manor Estates.

Personnel from multiple rescue and emergency services were at the accident to assist the injured passengers, together with members of the SAPS and traffic officers.

“At the moment we have two fatalities,” said Paul Herbst of IPSS Medical Rescue.

“Ten passengers are being treated for the wounds they received.

“There were five people with moderately serious injuries, three with minor injuries and two who are in critical condition.”

The identities of the two victims are not yet known.

The brother of one of the deceased was distraught after confirming to police that it was indeed the lifeless body of his sibling lying on the side of the road.
