Eagle Owl chick rescued in Ballito

The owl landed in a swimming pool and swallowed large amounts of water before it was rescued.

An Eagle owl chick was rescued this morning by Specialized Rescue Unit from Seaward Estate.

According to SRU’s Quintin Power, a resident alerted estate security that an the owl had crash landed in their swimming pool.

“We were called to assist and retrieve the owl from the Estate’s security.

“The owl had ingested large amounts of fluid from the pool,” he said.

The owl has been taken to Ballito Veterinary Clinic and was given antibiotics.

“It is being dried and warmed up at the moment.

“Once he is warm we will try to feed him and try and gauge how he is doing,” said Power.
