Ballito UIP contract extended

The UIP was established in Ballito in 2015 by property owners as a way to create a clean, safe and well managed public space

KwaDukuza municipality has extended the Ballito Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) contract for a further three years considering the positive impact it has had on the community.

The UIP was established in Ballito in 2015 by property owners as a way to create a clean, safe and well managed public space.

UIP project leader Brian Wright said they believed the extension to their contract is testimony to the success of the KDM and UIP partnership in enhancing the service and experience of Ballito’s public areas.

“The UIP welcomes the positive news of KDM’s extension of our contract for a further three years.

“The notable improvements, including safety, are a key driver of investor confidence in Ballito, which unlocks economic opportunity and importantly job creation.”

In the next three years, the UIP aims to enhance the existing level of supplementary services, specifically security, landscaping, cleaning and general maintenance.

“The UIP has also budgeted for special improvement projects in high use and visible public areas which will add to the Ballito experience.

“The UIP believes it is important that ways are found to ensure greater economic and social benefits are realised by neighbouring communities from the growth of the Ballito economy, in this regard we will be supporting emerging contractors wherever possible,” said Wright.

Some of the UIP’s responsibilities include greening and beautification of the areas under its jurisdiction, improvement of security and safety of the business community, minor repairs and maintenance of infrastructure as well as Corporate Social Investment.

“KDM took in to account that the Precinct has significantly contributed to job creation, there has been an improvement in the collection rate of levies from businesses within the area from 93% in 2015/16 to 97% in the 2016/2017 financial year and that the UIP contracts local companies to offer services in the areas under its jurisdiction among other factors,” said KDM media liaison officer Sipho Mkhize

The areas covered are commercial properties located within the Ballito Business Park, on the M4, P445, Link Road, Simbithi Drive and Compensation Beach Road.
