New addition to Tongaat SAPS

Having spent 15 years as a communications officer at Mayville SAPS, captain PZ Ngwane has made his way to Tongaat police station to take over as the subsection commander for corporate communications and marketing.
The efficient captain took over the reigns from warrant officer Manisha Mari two weeks ago.
With years of police experience under his belt, Ngwane plans to use his expertise and passion for fighting crime to bring positive change to the Tongaat community.
“I knew I wanted to be a policeman when I finished high school as I witnessed high levels of crime in my neighbourhood. When I received that opportunity I knew I would make a change and contribute to the world.”
Being a man of many talents, since joining the police he discovered a passion for accounting and pursued a bachelor of technology diploma in management which he said equipped him with the skills he needed to progress up the ranks.
“I love the fact that I can use my skills and have innovative ideas to bring about change withing the community. I also love that that I have the opportunity to work with people and communicate through media channels,” he said.
Ngwane’s duties include internal and external communications, liasing with the media, marketing, public relations and branding.
It is no secret that being a policemen is not an easy job and often comes with long hours and many sacrifices.
Being a father of three, Ngwane said one of his biggest challenges was finding a balance between his work and family life.
“My experience with SAPS has so far been exciting and rewarding but because there is an expectation for me to carry out my duties even when I am off duty, finding balance can be challenging.
“There were times when I was younger where I was placed in risky situations while on duty but being a policeman has taught me to appreciate my life and make a difference where I can.”
