Fairy godmothers for township pets

Sables Creatures has helped countless animals and their owners and now need you to help them continue their good work

Blind and imprisoned in his kennel with a broken jaw and burn marks on his head, Hercules was found during one of Sables Creatures‘ township outreach days in December last year.

After weeks of special care and treatment from Aloe Vet, he made a remarkable recovery and while he still has to tilt his head back to swallow, he is happy, healthy and lives with his loving new family in Ballito.

Fairytale endings like these motivate the Sables Creatures ladies who regularly trek into local townships to educate pet owners and give abandoned, abused and neglected pets a second chance at life.

The pro-life organisation, founded in 2012, has helped countless animals and their owners and now need you to help them continue their good work.

“Upper Stanger faces extreme financial hardship where people struggle to meet their basic needs, which negatively impacts their animal’s welfare.

“While we put all of our efforts into sterilisation programs, we often become involved with treating sick animals and puppies,” said volunteer Lisa Burgess.

Vaccination and deworming programs are also a priority focus, as well as feeding schemes. Supporting puppy foster homes and animals with severe health problems who require high quality food to recover while under treatment is particularly costly.

All of this good work is eating into their donations and their current focus is to raise funds to increase their sterilisation program and reduce their ever-growing veterinary bills, currently sitting at about R35 000.

“We hope to grow to a point where we can help all animals, create environmental awareness and have an education program to teach the community and especially the youth on the proper care and humane treatment of all creatures no matter how big or small,” said Dee Allan, another volunteer and foster mom.

To help, you can either make a donation into the Sables Creatures account at Aloe Vet, Ridge Vet or Ballito Vet or you can pay a donation into the Sables Creatures account: Nedbank current account, account number: 1119991218.
