WATCH: One person critical after train crushes car in Groutville
A fully loaded passenger train collided with a car carrying three passengers
Three men made a lucky escape after a train crushed their car while they were crossing the railway line at Charlottedale train station, Groutville around 8pm last night.
The driver and front passenger got away with minor injuries, but the passenger in the back was not so lucky.
IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Paul Herbst said the back of the vehicle was completely smashed by the fully loaded train, which was coming in to stop at the station, leaving the back passenger severely entrapped.

“KwaDukuza fire department had to use the jaws of life to free the injured man from the wreckage. Once freed, the man was intubated and placed on a ventilator,” said Herbst.
The man was transported to hospital.
