Bomb scare at King Shaka International airport

The upper level of the airport was evacuated while police investigated some unattended luggage

The departure lounge at King Shaka International airport was cleared for about an hour this evening to allow the SAPS bomb squad and K9 units to sweep the area after an unattended bag was discovered.

According to IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst they were among the emergency personnel called to the airport to be on standby should anything be found.

“This is standard procedure in the case of unattended luggage at the airport,” said Herbst.

The bag was given the all clear and airport operations have continued as normal.

There were no flight delays of more than a few minutes.
