She is driven by her profession, faith and family and is on a mission to take the stress out of those emergency situations and to make you feel welcome and safe.
Dr René Leitch is a permanent doctor at ER Consulting Inc and started as the new principle clinical manager at Netcare Alberlito’s emergency unit in March this year.
“Since age ten, I have wanted to be a missionary doctor! I did not quite make the missionary part, but I love being a doctor and find it an absolute privilege to engage both with patients and their families,” said Dr Leitch, who has worked at various hospitals including McCord Hospital’s Sinikithemba Antiretroviral clinic as well as in anesthetics at Stanger Hospital.
“My vision for the emergency department at Alberlito Hospital is that each patient would receive exceptional clinical attention, while feeling heard and understood and kept informed of their treatment plan and progress,
“Feedback from our patients and their families is important. We need to hear what we do right and wrong so that we can improve,” said the 35-year-old active mom who enjoys reading auto-biographies and hiking.
Leitch lives in Ballito with her three sons, Samuel (5), Jack (4) and Noah (1) and her entrepreneur husband, Nicholas.
The family feels strongly about being part of a “community of believers” and are members of the Olive Tree Church in Salt Rock.
Besides medicine, Dr Leitch is passionate about play and said it is crucial for children to be active.
“Being a mom to impressionable and potential-filled little humans is simultaneously my most challenging and rewarding assignment in life. Having three boys, who are energetic, funny, gentle and obviously gorgeous, I am very aware of the need for kids to be outdoors in a healthy, active environment. Allowing children to play in open spaces is integral in their development.”
