World record title for tallest cupcake tower in SA

The tower paid tribute to more than 50 little "cancer warriors" registered on their network who lost the battle this year

Thanks to Ballito’s cupcake angel Sandy Cipriano, South Africa now holds the Guinness World Record title for the tallest cupcake tower in the world.

Founder of the national charity Cupcakes for HOPE, Cipriano organised a sweet cupcake tower event last Saturday in Johannesburg, resulting in a creation of a 10.7-meter tower and a whopping 6370 cupcakes raised from around the country.

Cipriano said the tower paid tribute to more than 50 little “cancer warriors” registered on their network who lost the battle this year.

“The Cupcakes for HOPE team work tirelessly to raise money for families and children who are fighting life-threatening diseases.

“After the event, every cupcake we collected was donated to the public and delivered to children’s homes and hospitals.”

Cipriano said that currently she and her team were working around the clock to raise funds for stem-cell and bone-marrow transplants.

South Africa now holds the Guinness World Record title for the tallest cupcake tower in the world.

“Right now, we need to raise R600 000. There are desperately ill children in our network whose families need all the help they can get.”

As September is known as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the charity’s main fundraiser, Cupcakes 4 kids with Cancer, will be held on September 30 at 63 malls across the country.

The adjudicator from Guinness World Records Glenn Pollard said Saturday’s event was well organised and impressive.

“Cupcakes of HOPE can justifiably feel incredibly proud of their achievement and of every single person that supported them.

“To see that the labours of those commendable efforts bring together the wider range of the community for such a wonderful cause made the success of the tower all the more special.”
