Elderly man electrocuted by illegal wiring in Tongaat

The scene needed to be cleared before paramedics could attend to the victim.

A man has died after being electrocuted by illegal wiring in Saunders Circle in Belvedere, Tongaat this afternoon (Tuesday).

According to Netcare 911’s Shawn Herbst it is believed that the victim, aged between 55 and 60, was collecting herbs on the steep embankment when he became entangled in illegal wiring and was electrocuted.

The Tongaat Fire Department was called to clear the area before paramedics could make their way to the victim.

IPSS Medical Rescue confirmed that two exposed wires made contact with the top and bottom of the victim’s body and he was declared dead upon arrival of paramedics.
