Siza Water pours R200K into education
Ilembe mayor Siduduzo Gumede praised the bursary scheme
Six local students recently received bursaries from Sembcorp Siza Water (SSW) to the combined value of R207 000.
SSW managing director Shyam Misra said they have added 70% of their public funds to the bursary fund.
Akshay Durgapersadh from Shakaskraal will be doing his second year in a bachelor of science degree at the University of KwaZulu Natal.
He thanked Siza Water for the bursary and promised to do well.
“I appreciate the fact that they value the importance of science in society and will grab this opportunity with both hands,” said Durgapersadh.
Other students are Kerina Naicker, doing civil engineering at UKZN, Kiara Birbal doing physiotherapy at UKZN, Pinky Ngubane who will be studying for a national diploma in surveying at Mangosuthu University of Technology, Sithembiso Mfusi who will be studying water and sanitation at Damelin College and Zinzi Nyaka who will be studying education at the University of Pretoria.
Ilembe mayor Siduduzo Gumede praised Siza Water for the positive initiative.
“Siza Water is currently doing what we are failing to do as district due to lack of resources.
“To you my children, please make the best of this opportunity, it a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Gumede.
