A treasure-trove of goods at the Dog Box
It's the perfect spot to find the exact thing that you were looking for, but never thought you would find.
From vinyl records and harmonicas, to birthday cards and printers.
The Dolphin Coast SPCA’s charity shop, The Dog Box, is home to an array of hidden gems selling for a fraction of the price, and all for a good cause.
The store, which can be found at the Boulevard Centre in Ballito, stocks every kind of second-hand goods, from clothes and bric-a-brac to books, glassware, jewellery, crockery and small furniture items.
It’s the perfect spot to find the exact thing that you were looking for, but never thought you would find.
“Each week you will find something new on the shelves,” said volunteer Carol Saunders.
“We have items ranging from cookware and clothes, to books and electronics.
“Bedding and linen are some of our most popular items and do not last very long on the shelves.”

Another attraction at the store is their well-stocked bookshop, which includes hundreds of fiction and non-fiction reads. You will even find a collection of Wilbur Smith books.
“Many customers who purchase our books re-donate them to the shop.”
Other interesting items available include silverware, board games, gift bags and even sewing patterns. If you spend enough time at the Dog Box, you will be amazed at what you will find.
But with so many customers visiting the store each week, it is imperative to keep the steady stream of donations flowing. This can only be done with the help of the community.
Volunteer Maggie Anderson is appealing to the public to reach into their hearts and dig deep in their cupboards to restock the shelves.

“We are so grateful for all the donations we receive. Some of the items are so beautiful and unique,” said Maggie.
“The donations that we cannot stock on our shelves are packed in a bag and sold off for R10, so we are still making a profit.”
The more unusual items are kept aside for the annual Dog Box Christmas Market.
“We are also so grateful for our volunteers who give of their time to help us during the week.”
The staff are all unpaid volunteers and the profits are used by the Dolphin Coast SPCA in the care of lost, injured, abused, unwanted and abandoned animals.
The shop is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 12.30pm.
So, empty your closet and head down to the Dog Box today!
