Taxi passenger shot execution-style near Stanger

The man was shot from behind while riding in the taxi.

An elderly commuter was brutally shot and killed on his way into Stanger this morning (Saturday).

According to KZN SAPS spokesperson captain Nqobile Gwala, the 67-year-old man was in a taxi on the R74 entering Stanger around 9am when the passenger behind him pulled out a gun and shot him.

“The elderly gentleman was shot in the middle of other passengers,” Gwala said.

After the murder, the taxi swerved to a halt and a silver Polo stopped alongside it.

“A light motor vehicle stopped and picked the suspect up, before speeding off,” said IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst.

Gwala told the Courier the motive was unknown, but that a case of murder had been opened at KwaDukuza Police Station.
