Youth to govern in a first for KwaDukuza ANC
KwaDukuza mayor Ricardo Mthembu was re-elected for the third consecutive term as ANC chairperson.
For the first time in KwaDukuza ANC history, two members of ‘the youth’ will form part of the party’s regional top five.
The new committee was elected at the region’s 7th congress held at the Meander Manor Hotel in Salt Rock, this past weekend.
The conference, which is convened once in every three years, was to decide the policy, constitution and regional heads of the ANC.
The ANC Youth League’s Musa Zondi will take up the position as the party’s secretary while the newly elected deputy chairperson Khonzuyise Ngidi was the former ANCYL regional chairperson.
KwaDukuza mayor Ricardo Mthembu, who was re-elected for the third consecutive term as ANC chairperson, said he was happy with the unprecedented move.
“This shows our seriousness to recognise the ability of young people.”
Mthembu who has served in the ANC since childhood vowed for improved service delivery in the region.
“I am happy and accept the task I have been bestowed by the masses for the third consecutive term.
“I do not take this lightly.
“Our mission from now on is to improve people’s love and ensure better and improved service delivery within the region.”
Meet the ANC’S top five
Chairperson Ricardo Mthembu

- Age: 48
- Mthembu’s formal career in politics began as councillor in Ward 9 in Stanger. He went on to becoming a PR councillor in 2006.
- First elected as mayor in 2011, Mthembu was the first KwaDukuza mayor to complete has five year term and be re-elected for a second run.
- Married with five daughters.
- When he is not working or with his family, Mthembu enjoys going to jazz concerts, church and playing soccer.
- As a younger man he previously played soccer for a team in Stanger.
Deputy chairperson – Khonzuyise Ngidi

- Age: 33
- Former ANCYL regional chairperson and current speaker at Ndwedwe Municipality.
- He has served in the ANC since he was 14 years old.
Secretary – Musa Zondi

- Age: 33
- Current secretary of the ANCYL in the Greater KwaDukuza Region.
- He is also a KDM employee who works as a supply chain officer.
- Zondi is expected to be instated with the ANC on a full-time basis.
Deputy Secretary – Matozi Khuzwayo Dlamini

- Current Maphumulo mayor.

Treasurer – Thulani Ntuli

- Age 44 (Born March 4, 1974)
- Serves on the executive committee (EXCO).
- He also sits on the infrastructure and technical portfolio at KDM.
