Dolphin Coast SPCA open for business
There has been much speculation following the branch’s temporary closure.
The Dolphin Coast branch of the SPCA is undergoing major reorganisation following the dismissal of two members of staff.
While there has been much speculation following the branch’s temporary closure, Durban and Coast SPCA general manager Caroline Smith confirmed they had dismissed a member of staff.
“We followed due process in doing so and we have no intention of publicising what is an internal staff disciplinary procedure.”
Smith said that the branch was open for business.
“In response to numerous queries, we wish to reassure the public that the services rendered by the SPCA to the local North Coast community have not been terminated.
“Certain operations have temporarily been suspended and absorbed at Springfield Park SPCA.”
Smith said while the branch was undergoing repairs, full-time field officer Nathi Ngise and another staff member are on site during office hours of 9am-2pm (Monday to Friday).
Ngise is on call after hours for emergencies.
Contact numbers are: 031 579 6500 (9am-2pm) or 083 212 6103 after hours.
The pound facilities at the Ballito Fire Station are still open for admissions after-hours and the Dog Box shop at the Boulevard is open as usual.

Correction: The original article stated that only one member of staff had been dismissed. The Durban and Coast SPCA have since confirmed that two staff members have been dismissed.
