Protea fighters to hit Tongaat this weekend
Don't miss out on any of the blistering karate action at the Tongaat Sports Centre this weekend.
Karate South Africa (KSA) tournament fighters fresh from a major victory at the recent Africa Zone six championships in Botswana are fighting fit and raring to go for the weekend’s SA open and Elite karate championships at the Tongaat Sports Centre.
The fighting will begin at 10am and go through to 3pm and promises to be a action packed day.
“We are expecting fireworks in the kingdom at the SA Open and Elite Tournament this weekend,” said KSA President Sonny Pillay Hanshi.
“Moreover all the top ranked KSA fighters from throughout the country will converge on our KZN North Coast shores to battle in pursuit of the major KSA National titles on offer.”
Tournament director Leo Ciutto reported that a record entry of karateka are expected to participate on Saturday and Sunday (23 and 24 June).
“Importantly, it must be noted that only KSA registered members are eligible to participate in the weekend’s event. Once again I urge parents to ensure that their children are enrolled with a KSA club should they intend to give their children an opportunity to achieve official KZN and Protea colours for karate.”

“Our Protea athletes will be pulling out all the stops to make a good impression this weekend, no doubt as several of them leave to fight on the World Karate Federation tournament circuit abroad from next month,” Brando said.
“Our junior Proteas are participating in the Olympic Youth qualifier in Eastern Europe (Croatia ) soon after the KSA Elite Championships and will look to impress at the coming weekend’s event in Tongaat,” said the seasoned Protea coach.
