Business mentoring begins as Entrepreneur Competition kicks off
The Entrepreneur development programme supports the viability and growth of SMMEs within the Ilembe District.
The Ilembe Chamber of Commerce’s Entrepreneur 2018 Competition has taken off and is now in full flight.
“All 25 finalists are on board, determined to take their businesses to new heights,” said Sakhile Khumalo, chamber business support manager.
The first session on Saturday was facilitated by Cobus Oelofse, Chamber CEO, with a guest lecture by Virginie Nothard from Spice Consulting.
Nothard shared a fascinating insight into the neuroscience of fear, risk, motivation and resilience, and provided some practical guidance on sound decision making – especially how belief and value systems guide daily decision making.
The energy in the room was palpable with finalists meeting like-minded business owners and the business mentors and programme facilitators that will support them during the programme.
The competition features a diverse group of finalists representing all four local municipalities within the Ilembe District.
The Entrepreneur development programme supports the viability and growth of SMMEs (Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises) within the Ilembe District.
The programme will run over eight weeks during which the finalists will be exposed to intensive business modelling, both through tuition and practical application, as part of the programme that was co-designed by the University of KwaZulu-Natal and USA-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The Entrepreneur is presented by the Ilembe Chamber in partnership with Enterprise Ilembe, King Shaka International Airport, the North Coast Courier, Sembcorp Siza Water and ENGIE Peakers Operations.
