Making a winning splash

It was the first time in NSPI history that one company won all nine gold awards.

Ballito’s Kenny Matthews is the golden man of pool building as he recently scooped all gold awards and three silvers at the National Spa and Pools Institute of South Africa (NSPI) Awards in Cape St Francis, Eastern Cape.

It was the first time in NSPI history that one company won all nine gold awards – which included regional and national Pool of the Year in the gunite/concrete division.

Kenny Matthews and his staff with their many awards from NSPI – an organization of the pool industry that comply to various regulations and standards.

Matthews said it was an incredible experience.

“I feel so honoured that my staff and I have received recognition for the hard work and dedication we have put into our pools.

“I thought I may have won one or two awards, but walking away with all the gold was so humbling and something I will remember for a very long time to come,” said Kenny, who has 34 years experience in the pool industry and opened his own company, Kenny Matthews Pools & Construction, nine years ago.

He specialises in unusual structural and engineered pools which resulted in him winning the gold for engineering as well.

This fabulous pool won Kenny Matthews the Engineering Gold Award.

Kenny says he is a perfectionist and loves a challenge.

“I pride myself on attention to detail and I have a passion for what I do. I enjoy a structural challenge and I am never scared to take on something new and different.

“I try to keep up to date with new innovations in the swimming pool industry and I am very hands-on during construction, as it is important to create a good relationship with my customer and give them peace of mind.”

Fellow Ballito pool companies Slimline Pools and Robust Pools took home four silver and six silver awards respectively.
