Seven bakers of cakes and treats to indulge in on the Dolphin Coast

Whether you like gentle, airy cakes or rich, creamy desserts, we have found the best of the best.

When the weather is wet and cold it means but one thing.

Its time to find a cozy coffee shop and a large slice of indulgence!

On our quest to find the most scrumptious cake spots in Ballito, we found seven home-made cakes that promise to hit the spot.

So in no particular order…

7. Poppy seed explosion at Delish Sisters!

The poppy seed cake is beautifully presented and a great treat for the gluten-conscious cake lover.

The stylish Delish Sisters‘ gluten-free, poppy seed cake with white chocolate is a gorgeous new ‘guilt-free’ treat.

The look: 10/10 – elegant, simple and beautiful.

The taste: This moist, delicate cake has a sweet softness combined with a fun crunchy chewiness thanks to the poppy seeds. Some of our tasters found the icing too sweet, while others thought it just right.

Price: R40 for a slice.

6. A velvety puff from Gail’s Bake Shop

This little German gem is a must-try treat.

Gail’s Bake Shop at Sage Centre is a great spot to stock up on some home-made baked goods – the beesting (Bienenstich) being one of their signature treats.

The look: Eat me!

The taste: This little guy is light and fluffy with a gentle flavour – the perfect anytime treat.

Tashas’ Spho with their famous coconut syrup cake – a slice from heaven.

It is not too sweet, super moist and has just the right amount of coconut in it. It is like something your gran would bake for you. Pair it with a cup of tea and voila!

Dripping with fresh custard tucked between crispy pastry layers, this custard slice will be one to remember.

The taste: We have a self-proclaimed custard slice expert/addict in the office and she gave this baby a five-star rating. Although she did miss the old-school layer of icing on the top.
