The sky is the limit for this Lindelani dressmaker!

Lindelani resident Patricia Nzuza, known as “Mama Girl”, is a passionate dressmaker who hopes to open a fashion design school.

“I have been working in clothing factories since the age of 18 and I fell in love with the job from the get go.

“I decided to go and study dressmaking in Durban, with the aim of starting my own business. However, due to lack of funds, I had to go back and work in a factory,” said Nzuza, whose nickname comes from her second name Girl.

The 48-year-old mother of three boys said while working she saved up for a sewing machine and started her business from home.

As the number of her customers grew, she decided to resign from her job and focus on her business.

“I was afraid to open a store in the CBD because I thought I was not going to be able to pay the rent.”

However, she finally got the courage to open her store at the Stanger Market Plaza last year and she does not regret it.

Nzuza produces traditional attire, beadwork, wedding gowns, suits and also does events decor.

Her biggest aim is to grow her business and have more machines because currently she is using one sewing machine.

The ambitious lady met with Ntombikayise Maphumulo who is a fashion designer and they decided to start a fashion design school together.

“Our school will be called Intshisekelo School of Fashion Designing. We are busy raising funds to buy sewing machines and pay the rent.

Maphumulo will handle the fashion design and I will be teaching dressmaker skills,” said Nzuza.
