No driving licences issued in KZN for a month

Those hoping to collect their outstanding licences have been met with repeated disappointment.

Frustration continues to mount at the KwaDukuza testing and licencing office as motorists have been unable to collect driver’s licence cards for more than a month.

The cards which are produced and distributed by the KZN transport department have not been issued throughout KZN since July 16.

In an email, one of the KwaDukuza licencing admin staff said the problem was causing huge setbacks and frustration.

“The public are driving here from far only to find that their licences have not arrived and also to note that there are no payments to be made until such time.”

KZN road traffic inspectorate director Victor Chetty, confirmed there was a problem.

He could not say when the problem would be resolved.

“Miss Nomsa Dube from the driving licence card account office has informed the province that there is a delay with the production of cards currently.

“They are attending to the matter and production should resume shortly.”

KwaDukuza municipality media liaison Sipho Mkhize said temporary licences were still being issued but that the problem was out of their hands.

“We are only responsible for the administration process and we are waiting on the transport department to resolve the issue.”
