Seven Dolphin Coast smoothies to get you into health mode

Find your perfect smoothie to smash those cravings.

Get your body ready for summer dresses and shorts by shedding those hibernation kilos and stocking up on healthy, cool meals-in-a-cup: smoothies.

On the quest to find the most nutritious and delicious smoothies locally, it became clear that the trend is to go for protein smoothies rich in raw nuts and nut butter.

Here are seven of my favourite’s, in no particular order:

1. Vanilla God at I Move Fitness Gym

The Vanilla God will give you a major dose of protein to kick your day into gear.

This is their best-seller, not only because of its gentle flavour, but mainly because it is chockablock with plant-based proteins to give your body a health kick.

Look: Light in colour and creamy looking, this is screaming natural nutrition.

Taste: A thick smoothie with subtle hints of peanut butter and banana with a little chewy date saying hello every now and then.

Cost: R60

Where: The Ballito Business Park on Ballito Drive.

2. Turkish Delight at Propa

Get all the proteins, anti-oxidants and vitamins you need in one slurp.

Look: The beautiful layers of pink and chocolate will make you want to dig in immediately (the smoothie is delivered level in the cup and not stacked high as shown in the photo).

Taste: Fresh lemon zestiness welcomes your taste buds to the experience, followed by a gentle sweet hint of rose water and then you get to the bottom chocolate layer which complements the other flavours perfectly.

Ingredients: Banana, almonds, almond milk, cashews, lemon, raspberries, beetroot, 100% cocoa, dates, natural vegan protein powder, vanilla extract, rose extract and Himalayan salt.

Cost: R55 for 250mls

Where: Propa make a different smoothie every week, so make sure to be added to the Whatsapp group – 072 463 9512 – to get the news on the latest flavour so you can place your order a day in advance. Orders are delivered to Lifestyle Health Ballito and Awanda Office Umhlanga.

3. The Juice Kitchen‘s Number One

Loaded with protein, this thick and creamy smoothie is a meal in a cup.

Look: Ultra creamy and thick (you might want to get a spoon out).

Taste: An intense blend of peanut butter and banana giving you a 100 percent protein boost. Great value as this one is definitely a meal replacement and at the price, it is a must try.

Ingredients: Pea protein powder, yoghurt, banana and sugar-free organic peanut butter.

Cost: R35

Where: The Ballito Lifestyle Centre

4. Chocesso at I Move Fitness Gym

Satisfy your chocolate craving with this wholesome alternative.

Look: Rich, creamy and a great dark chocolate look.

Taste: Intense chocolate taste, not too sweet with a slight bitter hint thanks to the espresso, very nice texture with delicious pieces of date. Very filling and rich – share this one with a friend as it is loaded with Chocolate Moondust Wazoogles.

Cost: R55

Where: The Ballito Business Park on Ballito Drive.

5. Rock-it Fuel at Sonatur

Remember to get an eco-friendly straw with a cute bag with your light and airy Almond Nut or green anti-oxidant booster, Rock-it Fuel.

Look: This intense green smoothie is an absolute health bomb and is the ideal smoothie for someone on a clean eating mission.

Taste: If you are not used to drinking ultra healthy smoothies, this one might be a bit of a shock to the taste buds on the first sip. Persevere, as it gets better with every gulp and will boost your body with anti-oxidants and give you a detox thanks to the special ingredient: Moringa.
