WATCH: Curious whales ‘greet’ paddler – Salt Rock
The paddler was knocked right off his kayak.

After spending a few hours fishing out at sea last Tuesday, a local paddler was greeted by a beautiful sight while making his way back to shore.
Jaco Tredoux of Wartburg was paddling back to his launch sight when he met a whale and her calf frolicking in the calm waters.

“This was the very first time I have seen a whale so close in all the years of launching next to Catfish reef at Salt Rock,” said Tredoux.
“As they were just behind backline I followed them for a little while keeping my distance.
“To my surprise the smaller whale came closer towards me and ‘said hello’.”
Unfortunately the calf couldn’t quite greet Tredoux with a trusty handshake, but instead it gently bumped straight into him, knocking him off his kayak.
Fortunately he had his GoPro at hand and managed to capture the experience.
One spectator, however, had a slightly different opinion on the event, after witnessing it through his binoculars.
