Wheel turns for Zen Park vandals – Ballito
A charge of destruction to property has since been opened against the alleged vandals at Umhlali SAPS.
Vandals turfing up a local park were caught red handed recently.
Ballito residents have long been angry with vandals shredding local parks by doing donuts and the like with cars and motorbikes and will be happy to hear that one such individual at least was caught in the act two weeks ago.
Zen Drive resident Craig Johnstone told the Courier he had been sitting on his veranda overlooking Zen Park shortly before 10pm on Monday night when he saw a vehicle drive into Zen Park.
“They proceeded to start doing donuts and the like, ripping up the grass,” Johnstone said.
Word quickly went out over the Ballito Neighbourhood Watch group and security personnel were sent to investigate.

“Before the security companies arrived, I watched him drive out of the park and into a yard just a few houses down the road. So I went and took some photos of the car and its registration.”
Johnstone said at this point an elderly gentleman came out to esquire why he was photographing the car. They spoke and he explained to the man what he had seen.
“He then called a pair of youngsters, who denied they were responsible despite the fact that we could literally see the muddy tracks leading from the park to the yard.”
Johnstone said he had since been to Umhlali SAPS and had also been in contact with the Parks and Gardens department.
