Mushroom seller thrown from moving vehicle as customer allegedly speeds off without paying

The young boy claims he jumped onto the car while trying to retrieve his mushrooms.

In an attempt to stop a motorist from stealing his merchandise, a young boy was badly injured after being thrown from a moving vehicle this morning.

The 12-year-old boy was apparently selling mushrooms on the N2 near the Goutville off-ramp, when a motorist stopped to buy from him.

According to IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst, the driver asked to see the mushrooms first, but when the young boy handed them to him, he sped off.

The boy then jumped onto the vehicle as he drove off, holding on to the driver’s door.

“He hung on for about 100 metres so the car was travelling at quite a high speed when the boy fell off,” said Herbst.

He was taken to hospital for further treatment.
