Cricket legend Hashim Amla ready for life at Saxony Sibaya
The Proteas cricket player grew up in Tongaat.
SA cricket legend Hashim Amla is moving back home to the North Coast into one of the most elegant lifestyle developments money can buy.
Set behind Umdloti, The Saxony Sibaya has teamed up with the classiest and calmest man on the cricket field to create the ultimate living place of understated luxury.
“I’m the pretty face on the billboard,” said the soft-spoken Amla who grew up in Tongaat and is a Proteas cricket player.
Besides his international sport star status, Amla is a well-travelled family man and was therefore the perfect ambassador for the estate.
“Being able to add value and be involved in something like this on the North Coast is really thrilling.”
The estate consists of 100 units spread over three cascading buildings called Aqua, Breeze and Cloud.
“With a growing family you are always on the lookout for a safe place to call home. My friends, family and I were fortunate enough to be given first exposure to Saxony and immediately I liked that this development was made for living,” said the 35-year-old Amla who is married and has three children.

“Security is a very high priority for me, so one of the big draw cards with these apartments is the direct drive-up access. Being able to carry my sleeping kids from the car to their bed at night without worrying about safety makes a big difference. It is also convenient for older family members.”
Besides the security aspect, Saxony offers all the bells and whistles from his and hers saunas to braai pods and three cascading pools. Being part of the larger Sibaya Coastal Precinct gives access to 350 hectares of forest conservancy, 75km trails, private schooling and shopping facilities – and that is just the outside. The apartments are designed with elegant living in mind, sporting high-end furnishings and handpicked details.
The units range from two bedrooms spread over 93 square metres with a private balcony starting at R3,85 million to 462 square metres, double volume, fourbedroom penthouses with a private pool going for up to R12,5 million. Amla has already picked his penthouse and fellow sport stars are expected to follow.
“The location is ideal for people who travel often because of the close proximity to the airport. Also being between Umhlanga and Ballito means you can be in the busy areas in an instant, yet you live in a calm, quiet place which is great for me because I am a very private person.”
Construction is expected to begin early next year with the occupation date set for 2020.
