Massive power outage for Upper Tongaat, Ballito and Umhlali

Electricians may be close to resolving the problem.

Electricians are working on fixing a fault at the Eskom Driefontein substation that has caused multiple power outages along some parts of Upper Tongaat, Ballito and Umhlali since yesterday evening.

Electricity was interrupted for parts of yesterday and throughout the night as the bad weather conditions made it difficult for electricians to find or fix the fault at the substation.

DA Ward 22 councillor Malcolm Hubner said word from the electricians was that the power would hopefully be restored in the next hour.

“There are two main feeds into Ballito, from the Eskom substation at Driefontein and Shakaskraal.

“The substation at Driefontein kept switching off. We do not know the cause,” said Hubner.
