Making history at the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk in Ballito
Pastor Dawie Jacobs, who recently moved to KZN, was inaugurated by his 76-year-old father Pastor J.H.H. Jacobs.
History was made when for the second time in a row a son was inaugurated by his father at the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk in Ballito recently.
The congregation were incredibly proud to have witnessed this significant moment when Pastor Dawie Jacobs, who recently moved to KZN all the way from Lichtenburg, North West, was inaugurated by his 76-year-old father Pastor J.H.H. Jacobs.
Pastor Dawie is taking over from Pastor Thomas Dreyer who was also confirmed by his father, Pastor H.M.E. Dreyer 37 years ago.
Congregation member Piet Steenkamp said they were honoured to be part of this notable moment.
“The inauguration of a son by a proud father was a memorable event to share with the family, who uprooted themselves from a loving community to take a leap of faith into the unknown waters of the Dolphin Coast,” said Steenkamp who lives in Ballito.
“Listening to the words of warm welcome from the elders and the congregation, it is clear that they will be loved, supported and appreciated.
“The theme of Pastor Dawie’s sermon “Blossom where you are planted” was a very appropriate inspiration to us all and we are enthusiastic to make it a way of life here where we have been planted in God’s garden.”
Excited to join the Ballito congregation, Pastor Dawie said he hopes to grow the church.
“This is a small congregation, but they have big dreams,” said the pastor, who has four children.
“We live in a very secular world where the church does not have the say it used to, but I think there is still a spiritual need in people. For me, it is important to talk to people at eye level and speak to their spirituality and needs. The youth often leave church because they feel their needs are not answered.”
