Eskom announces stage one loadshedding
Brace yourself for possible loadshedding this afternoon.
The national power utility announced at midday today that Stage 1 rotational loadshedding is to be implemented from 12pm until 10pm tonight.
The Eskom media desk said this was due to a “increased generation plant being out for planned maintenance and unplanned outages”.
According to the Eskom website Ballito may be out between 2pm and 4.30pm, however in the past KwaDukuza municipality has not always implemented loadshedding according to Eskom’s schedule.
Stanger was not found on the Eskom website.
KDM could not be reached to confirm whether the municipality would implement loadshedding today within these times or at all.
Stage 1 rotational load shedding requires 1000MW to be loadshed nation-wide.
Loadshedding is conducted as a measure of last resort to protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout.
“We encourage residents and businesses to please use electricity sparingly to ease the demand of electricity.
“Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand.”
For Eskom customers, these schedules are available on the Eskom website.
