Construction worker buried alive – Groutville

Emergency workers dug seven men from the rubble.

Seven construction workers were buried when a wall collapsed on top of them near the Luthuli Museum in Groutville today.

Fire and Rescue  as as well as emergency personnel worked to free the patients who had been buried shortly after midday.

“One patient a 28-year-old male was found in a critical condition and due to the seriousness of his injuries a full advanced life support resuscitation was initiated.

“Sadly the worker had succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on the scene,” said Netcare 911’s Shawn Herbst

The circumstances leading up to the wall collapsing are being investigated by the authorities.
