Ballito’s Margie Els brings home the crown for charity
She is already planning her next fundraiser and appealed to anyone who could help her make a difference at Inqolobane Children's Home near Stanger.
After months of hosting charity events, raising funds and preparations, Ballito’s queen of hearts was crowned Mrs Africa Classic United Nations in Johannesburg last week.
Margie Els said she was thrilled to have brought home the crown and cannot wait to represent her country in the international competition in Toronto, Canada next year.
“Having won this title makes me so happy because it focuses on community work and children, which is my passion. Going to Toronto and seeing how a first world country raises funds and help their needy will be so interesting and I hope to bring some ideas back home to help here,” said Els, who also won Face of Africa first princess title.
She said the ten-day final part of the pageant was hectic, but well worth it in the end.
“We got up at 4.30am every morning, starting with hair and make up and then had packed days of photo shoots, events and rehearsals which usually finished around 10.30pm. It was a lot of hard work, but I made some wonderful friends and we had lots of good laughs.”

“I really hope to help the home for disabled children as they are battling to keep up with the costs of adult nappies worn by 23 of their children. They spend about R18 000 a month on these diapers. I would like to try help them with a supply of adult nappies for the festive season to give them a break from this big expense.”
