New Year’s road closures for the Dolphin Coast

Plan your routes accordingly.

New Year’s Eve is literally around the corner and that means thousands will be flocking to the Dolphin Coast’s beaches to close off the old year in the sun or enjoy the massive street party in downtown Ballito.

KwaDukuza municipality has released a statement detailing the following road closures as of tomorrow (Monday, December 31).

Ballito

From 1pm on Monday, December 31 through to 6am the next morning the following intersections will be affected in Ballito due to the New Year’s street party:

  • Sandra Road/Hawkins Road.
  • Compensation Beech Road/Hawkins Place.
  • Edward Place/Hawkins.
  • Hawkins/Compensation Beach Road.
  • Tedder/Compensation Beach Road.
  • Minerva/Hawkins.
  • Regg Fripp Place/Sandra Road.

On New Year’s Day, expect road closures at Compensation/Hawkins.

Salt Rock

  • On New Year’s Day, expect road closures at Main Beach and Hugh Dent/Basil Hullet Roads.

Tinley Manor

  • On New Year’s Day, expect road closures at:
  • Tinley Manor Main Road.
  • Lagoon/Seaview Drive.
  • Seaview Drive /the second car park.

Blythedale

For the ANC event and New Years Day, expect road closures at the following intersections:

  • Mvoti Drive/Conger Place.
  • Porpoise Road/Dolphin Crescent.
  • Garrick road/Dolphin Crescent.
  • Mullet Place/Mvoti Drive.

The municipality has asked residents to note that Mvoti drive will be a one way in a westerly (inland) direction leading out of town. Dolphin Crescent will be used as main feed into the area.

VIPS will be allowed to travel directly to the caravan park for parking.

Residents and visitors with permits will be allowed to drive down Mvoti to reach holiday accommodation.

There will be alternative parking at the open space at the corner of Porpoise Road and Dolphin Crescent. This will also be utilised as the drop of for public transport.

No other vehicles will be allowed past Mullet Place /Mvoti Drive.

Zinkwazi

On New Year’s Day, expect road closures at:

  • Nkwazi/Glen Drive.
  • Glen Drive/Sunbird Drive.
  • Nkwazi Drive/Sunbird Drive.
  • Sandy Cove/Nkwazi Drive.

KDM has stated that the area between Nkwazi/Glen Drive and Sunbird/Nkwazi will be closed to accommodate pedestrians.

Traffic officers and SAPS members will be at strategic intersections to assist with traffic flow.

There will also be law enforcement and emergency services personnel to ensure safety and security.
