Pedestrian hit by train on New Year’s Day
At least eight people were injured in road/rail accidents on New Year's Day.
A pedestrian has been left in a critical condition after being hit by a train yesterday.
The man, in his late 30’s, was apparently walking alongside the tracks at Etete informal settlement.
“He apparently did not hear the train approaching and was clipped by it as it went passed,” said Paul Herbst of IPSS Medical Rescue.

In a separate incident, one person sustained critical injuries and six others were hurt in an accident on the Palm Lakes link oad between the N2 and the R102 yesterday evening.
According to Herbst, three vehicles were involved in the accident.
“One of the cars had broken down and the second stopped to help. The third vehicle rear-ended the other two after coming around a bend not seeing them.”
Herbst said the man helping to change a tire sustained critical injuries and six others were also hurt.
