One dead, 20 injured in M4 crash

The multiple vehicle pile-up had deadly consequences.

One man died and about 20 people were injured in a multiple vehicle collision on the M4 near Umdloti this evening.

Three cars and a minibus were involved in the accident and according to paramedics, about 18 commuters travelling in the minibus were injured while a man in his forties was pronounced dead on scene.

Paramedics arrived shortly after 6pm, to find the road blocked by the wrecked vehicles.

“It was absolute carnage as the twisted remains of the vehicles occupied the road.

“The injuries ranged from minor to moderate and the patients were treated and stabilised before being taken to hospital,” said Crisis Medical Umdloti general manager Kyle van Reenen.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
